Retrograde Inversion are a 5-piece rock band based in the Surrey/Hampshire area in the UK. They have been described by local press as "...an exciting mix of bass-driven funk and 70's style melodic rock, adding the occasional twist of experimentalism on the way... a refreshingly vibrant live band"

Biography

Hailing from the bustling metropolis that is Haslemere Rock-City, Retrograde Inversion play an aggressive mixture of funk-infused hard rock, with material ranging from the ethereal strummings of 'Lost at Sea', through the darkness of 'Wake Up (It’s a Mindset)' right out to the apocalyptic riffage of 'Cut Loose'.  Inspired to make music by the likes of Rage Against The Machine, Aerosmith, Radiohead and Led Zeppelin, the band formed in 2003, taking part in the Live & Direct youth music scheme.

After a series of live dates since formation, Retrograde Inversion completed their first recorded release 'The Funk EP' in late 2004 and started promoting it at local venues in an effort to garner greater interest in what they had to offer.  The resulting onslaught of appearances included dates at Aldershot West End Centre, Alton Community Centre, a support slot with Derby metallers Nephwrack at Guildford's The Star Inn, Cranleigh Arts Centre with Bohica, as well as airplay on Delta FM and BBC Radio Leicester.

Despite the eclectic nature of the band's music, audiences have been incredibly receptive of Retrograde Inversion’s flamboyant and energetic live presence, which includes soaring vocal embellishments, ground-churning synthetic soundscapes and screeching guitar/spoon solos all stapled down by funky bass-lines and rock-steady drumming.  More recently, the band have been writing new material, taking the band to gritty depths not heard on their first release.  The band will be recording a new CD in the coming months, to be released on the Big Red Records label this summer.

The last year has brought appearances at venues across Surrey and Hampshire, as well as an hour-long acoustic special on the Delta FM Keith Woodhouse Show.  Retrograde Inversion received a cash prize and studio time as a result of their victory at Alton's Battle of the Bands 2005, were featured in the Hampshire press in anticipation for their headline slot at the Bordon Live Aid Festival in May, and have recently appeared in the gig listings in the NME magazine.
